Vogel honored by ASCE

At the ASCE World Environmental and Water Resources Congress in May 2020, Professor Emeritus Richard Vogel of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering will receive the Ven Te Chow award for “his extensive contributions in the fields of probabilistic and stochastic methods in hydrology, environmental engineering, and water resources.” He will also deliver the Ven Te Chow Lecture.

Vogel became a professor emeritus and research professor in 2016 after 33 years on the faculty at Tufts University. He was previously the director of the university’s interdisciplinary graduate program in Water: Systems, Science, and Society. His research focuses on the application of statistical approaches to the solution of applied problems in the fields of hydrology, water resources engineering, and natural hazards.

Awarded by the American Society of Civil Engineers Environmental and Water Resources Institute, the Ven Te Chow Award recognizes lifetime achievement in the field of hydrologic engineering. It was named in honor of Professor Ven Te Chow of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, an influential engineer and hydrologist who made tremendous contributions to the fields of water resources development and hydrology.
